Menopause can affect women life drastically. As they go through some physical changes and symptoms, emotional affects can be a lot difficult to deal with. Fear of getting old is the main reason behind, why many women feel depressed. Despite all the changes some women can also sail through, without any emotional changes.

One of the major symptoms that relates to emotions are mood swings. Severity of the mood swing can be varying. Some can feel sad and down and others can go through major depression. However, women that get affected by depression are usually the ones who suffered from premenstrual syndrome at earlier in their life.

Although the emotional symptoms of menopause linked to low hormones, it can also be because of the fact that you are facing the reality of life. Many women usually go through depression, as they face the fact of getting older and their body go through major changes. Obviously, from feeling young to seeing the symptoms of aged women can hit some women really hard. Also, added pressure of social life such as work, marriage, caring for unwell can also affect emotional feeling negatively.

So, as well as suffering from mood swings and depression, women can go through other emotional symptoms such as panic attacks, poor memory and concentration, and less desire of sex. However, linking all these directly to menopause would be wrong.

For instance panic attack can be caused as the women age. This is mainly because of the society, where youth is much more preferable. So, as you realise that you are not young anymore and that feeling tops with family issues and social pressures, level of anxiety increases.

During menopause, oestrogen levels also drops. Oestrogen is very useful for nerve cells. So, as the level drops, this can cause lack of concentration and also poor memory. As the hormone levels drop, women can also feel a lot less desire for sex also.

However, menopause can also be very beneficial for sex life. As the risk of being pregnant diminishes, couples tend to be more confident about sex. They can try new things and they don’t have to worry about accidental pregnancy. So, sex life after menopause can be improved dramatically and some women enjoy sex even a lot more than before.
